Christ the King College of Calbayog City, Inc. joins the nation in commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, a historic milestone that restored democracy and showcased the strength of peaceful unity among Filipinos.
As the country reflects on this defining moment in history, the CKC community stands in solidarity with fellow citizens in remembering the courage, faith, and collective resolve demonstrated along EDSA four decades ago. The revolution remains a powerful reminder that meaningful change can be achieved through unity, integrity, and active civic participation.
Rooted in its mission to form socially responsible and values-driven individuals, CKC reaffirms its commitment to promoting truth, justice, and democratic ideals among its students and stakeholders in Calbayog City and beyond.
On this 40th anniversary, the institution encourages continued reflection on the enduring lessons of EDSA and the shared responsibility of every Filipino in safeguarding freedom and democracy in the Philippines.

𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘: 𝟒𝟎 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒 𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐄𝐃𝐒𝐀 𝐏𝐄𝐎𝐏𝐋𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐑 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍
As a Catholic Franciscan institution, Christ the King College of Calbayog City, Inc. joins the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), in commemorating the 40th Anniversary of EDSA under the theme “EDSA KWARENTA: FIGHT FOR DEMOCRACY.”
EDSA was not merely a political event. It was a moral awakening. It was a collective stand against corruption, abuse of power, and the erosion of human dignity. It was a declaration that truth is stronger than lies, that faith is stronger than fear, and that unity is stronger than tyranny.
Forty years later, we must ask ourselves: Have we remained faithful to the spirit of EDSA?
Today, our nation continues to struggle under the weight of systemic corruption that robs the poor of opportunities, political dynasties that weaken democratic participation, widening poverty that denies families a life of dignity, and the destruction of our natural resources that betrays our responsibility as stewards of creation. We witness threats to our sovereignty and harassment in our own waters. We see misinformation dividing our people and apathy silencing moral courage.
As a Franciscan community, we cannot remain neutral in the face of injustice. St. Francis of Assisi embraced Lady Poverty and called for a conversion of heart. In that same spirit, we denounce every form of corruption, greed, environmental exploitation, and abuse of power that wounds our nation. Silence in the face of injustice is complicity.
We call on our leaders to govern with integrity, transparency, and genuine service to the common good. We call on our students and academic community to cultivate critical thinking, moral courage, and active citizenship. We call on all Filipinos to reject systems that perpetuate inequality and to protect the dignity of the poor, the marginalized, and future generations.
EDSA reminds us that peaceful resistance grounded in faith can transform history. The struggle for justice did not end in 1986; it continues in every generation.
May we have the courage to speak truth even when it is uncomfortable, to defend what is right even when it is costly, and to love our country enough to demand better.
In the spirit of the Gospel and the charism of St. Francis, we renew our commitment to be instruments of peace, justice, and integrity for our beloved Philippines.
“The truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)
