Christ the King College of Calbayog City, Inc. (CKC) actively participated in the 3rd Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake and Fire Drill (NSED) held on September 26,2024. This important event was conducted in partnership with the Calbayog City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), led by Dr. Sandro Daguman, in coordination with representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DILG-RDRRMO), the Western Samar Maritime Police, and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Calbayog.
The drill commenced at 9:30am simulating a powerful earthquake followed by fire scenarios to test the readiness and coordination of the school community and local responders. Students, faculty, and staff of CKC swiftly evacuated classrooms and followed established safety protocols, demonstrating the effectiveness of disaster preparedness drills within the institution.
CDRRMO, alongside the DILG-RDRRMO, Western Samar Maritime Police, and BFP Calbayog, served as evaluators during the exercise. They carefully assessed the speed and efficiency of the evacuation process, communication flow, and emergency response procedures. Initial reports indicate that CKC performed well, with minor recommendations for improvement shared to enhance future preparedness measures.
Dr. Sandro Daguman commended the school for its active participation, noting the importance of collaborative efforts between educational institutions and local government agencies in ensuring community safety during disasters. The evaluators emphasized that such drills play a vital role in strengthening disaster resilience, particularly in schools where the safety of students is paramount.
The event concluded with a brief debriefing session led by the evaluators, where they provided feedback to the participants and encouraged continuous improvement in disaster preparedness.
The NSED is part of a nationwide initiative to promote safety awareness and readiness in the event of natural and man-made calamities, and CKCโ€™s participation reflects its commitment to fostering a culture of safety and preparedness within the school and the larger community.
