On May 31, 2024, Christ the King College of Calbayog City, Inc. held its 75th Commencement Ceremonies at the Assumption Province Gymnaturiom with the theme โ€œCatholic-Franciscan Graduate: Advocates and Shapers of Transformative and Synodal Society. Excitement and nostalgia filled the air as graduates and their families gathered to celebrate this hard-earned milestone.

Formerly known as Colegio-Seminario de San Vicente de Paul, Christ the King College of Calbayog City, Inc. was administered by Franciscan Missionaries and established in 1905. As part of the institutionโ€™s tradition, this academic year was to honor the dedication and achievements of every Christi Regians who recently graduated. This year, 359 students from different institutes crossed the stage to receive their diplomas.

The event was divided Into two parts: in the morning, attendees participated in the Baccalaureate Mass, followed by the Investiture of Hoods and Caps, and the Recognition Ceremony (Departmental Awards). Later in the afternoon, the Commencement Ceremonies took place, presided over by the College President, Fr. Prisco A. Cajes, OFM, Th.D. The ceremonies included a solemn procession, the presentation of candidates for degree and certificate programs, the giving of Academic and Presidentโ€™s awards, and the singing of the graduation song and alma mater hymn.

The ceremonyโ€™s highlight was the presentation of academic awards. This year, there were 5 magna cum laude, 3 cum laude, and 75 with academic distinction. Additionally, the graduates sang Taylor Swiftโ€™s popular song โ€œLong Live,โ€ evoking nostalgia, triumph, and togetherness from their time at Christ the King College. Each graduate has a story to unfold, shaping their experiences and forged bonds within the Christi Regian community.

In an interview with with The Scepter, graduates shared a mix of emotions as they geared up for the next phase of their lives. From excitement to a touch of nervousness, there was a real sense of anticipation in the air. Many expressed sincere gratitude for the never-ending support and opportunities provided by the institution. With eagerness, they spoke of their readiness to apply the knowledge gained from their academic journey to future endeavors, such as entering the workforce and acing the board exams. As they dive into this new chapter, the class of 2024 is ready for the future ahead of them.

As the ceremony concluded, Ma. Luz Paula Semillan, Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English, Cum Laude, delivered an Address of Gratitude. Geo Pasacas, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Loyalty Awardee, then led the Pledge of Loyalty, followed by Martin Durmiendo, CSVP-CKC Alumni Association President, who conducted the induction. The recession followed. Emotions soared amidst the heartfelt strains of the Alma Mater hymns, โ€œChristi Regians,โ€ and โ€œMarch Along.โ€ Amidst words of encouragement and pride, graduates were reminded to carry the cherished core values of the Franciscan Institution, representing Christ the King College, into their future endeavors. Laughter and tears flowed freely as caps soared into the air, marking both an end and a beginning. With the sounds of applause fading, graduates left the Assumption Province Gymnaturiom with achievement, togetherness, and hope for what lies ahead.
